This website is a repository of the intellectual property created by Bill Matthews over a long career devoted to helping privately held businesses.  It also includes other important information regarding the intellectual property.  The copyrights for all of these materials have been assigned to The WOW Business Advisory, LLC, where Bill is the sole shareholder.

Background Information

After serving as an executive and officer for a "Fortune 500" company and President of a financial services organization, Bill helped establish Aileron (www.aileron.org), a not-for-profit organization that has provided guidance to thousands of privately held businesses since 1996.  Made possible by the generosity of the late Clay Mathile, Aileron operates from a 100+ acre campus near Dayton, Ohio, and has been featured nationally by Fox Business News and Forbes Magazine.

During his retirement years, he began creating intellectual property designed to help privately held businesses create jobs and enhance the communities where they operate.

Sandler Training, the world's largest management and sales training company, purchased a license to deliver parts of Bill's content under their own brand, "Leadership for Organizational Excellence."  Sandler has delivered the content globally to thousands of organizations, which has generated millions of dollars in revenue for them each year.  

The intellectual property has also been used in college/university Entrepreneurship programs, in the rehabilitation of inmates who would like to start their own businesses after being released from incarceration, and in the APEX 360 professional management system to improve performance and in the Orthotics and Prosthetics industry.

Bill has served on the boards of many privately held businesses and not-for-profit organizations and is a past member of the University of Dayton's Crotty Advisory Council that provides guidance to the University's Entrepreneurship initiatives. 

His works include numerous articles, white papers, and videos, as well as three books. Five P's to a "WOW!" Business and Don't Step in the Entremanure are both published by Sound Wisdom. The third publication, Your Next Checkered Flag: The Ultimate Joy Ride, is an e-book focused on how to plan for your own legacy, and has been downloaded thousands of times. 

Overview of the Intellectual Property

As shown in the diagram below, Bill's intellectual property has been designed around the unique needs of business owners based on where they are in the business life cycle:

  • Growth Stage
  • Business Transition/"Personal Joy" Stage

Within each of the three stages, instructional content can be delivered in four different ways:

  • Facilitator-Led, In-Person
  • Facilitator-Led, "Live" Online
  • Online, On-Demand, Self-Paced
  • Monthly Facilitator-Led Leadership Circles, In-Person or Online

Accessing the Content

The menu tabs at the top of this homepage align directly with the content outlined in the diagram above. 

  • There's a separate tab for each stage of the business life cycle. Within each tab, the content is organized according to the method of delivery. That means you can view self-paced videos and download a variety of facilitator tools, book links, workbooks, white papers, articles, and other resources.
  • Under the tab, "Additional Tools," you'll find various documents, videos, and other resources that can be helpful when leading organizations through any phase of the business life cycle.  They have been grouped together separately for easy access.
  • There is also a separate menu tab, "Key LLC Information," which contains important documents related to The WOW Business Advisory, LLC, including licensing agreements, publishing contracts, copyright registrations, referral agreements, etc.
